Dr. Lucian Rivela performs a number of breast surgeries to correct breast asymmetry in The Woodlands. Many women have breasts or areolae that are asymmetrical in shape or size. This issue can be a source of constant frustration in a woman’s life.

Breast asymmetry can make clothes shopping more difficult, can cause embarrassment in intimate situations, and can even result in physical problems. When a patient is ready to resolve their breast asymmetry, the first step is the initial consultation.

The Breast Asymmetry Consultation

When you meet with Dr. Rivela, you will need to clearly communicate your goals for your asymmetry correction. Dr. Rivela will perform an examination to assess the degree of asymmetry and ensure that you are in overall good health, and the two of you will discuss your medical history.

Once the desired procedure has been chosen, Dr. Rivela will walk you through the details of the surgery, including preparation and the healing process.

Methods of Correcting Breast Asymmetry

Dr. Rivela offers three primary methods of correcting asymmetries: breast augmentation, a breast lift, and breast reduction.

A breast augmentation is employed when one breast is smaller than the other and a volume increase is needed. This process involves inserting a breast implant in the smaller breast. When an increase in breast size is desired for both breasts, implants of different sizes are inserted to correct for asymmetry.

A breast lift is performed in cases where breast shape is asymmetrical, one breast is experiencing more sag than the other, or areolae are asymmetrical. This procedure trims away excess skin to address these asymmetries.

A breast reduction is utilized when one breast is larger than the other and a volume decrease is needed. This surgical solution involves the removal of excess fat, glandular breast tissue, and/or skin to reduce the size of the larger breast. This may also require areola reduction.

Recovery After Breast Asymmetry Correction

The exact recovery process for each patient depends on the specific breast procedure they underwent for their asymmetry correction. In general, patients will need to wear a supportive post-surgical bra without underwire while the tissues heal. They will also need to take some time off from work.

Bruising and swelling will be present after surgery, but these will be temporary and will fade shortly. Cold compresses can bring down swelling. It will be necessary to avoid sports, heavy exercise, and other physically strenuous activities for several weeks.

Stitches will be removed during a follow-up appointment. As part of this appointment, Dr. Rivela will check on the incisions to ensure that healing is progressing as expected.

The Cost of Correcting Breast Asymmetry

The procedure you choose for breast asymmetry correction will determine the overall cost. Other factors that influence the price include the cost of breast implants, the amount of tissue removed, the type of anesthesia used, the time needed to perform the surgery, and the incision techniques utilized.
