What is Tixel?

Tixel is a non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment that works via thermal energy. While Tixel is fairly new to the US, it has been safely used in Europe for over 10 years. At Rivela Plastic Surgery, we are excited to share Tixel with our patients, as it delivers results similar to those of CO2 laser treatments without discomfort and prolonged downtime.

Tixel can be used for:

  • Skin tightening
  • Improved skin tone and texture
  • Acne and Acne scarring
  • Lax skin around the eyes
  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven pigmentation and melasma
  • Rosacea
  • Stretch Marks

Tixel Candidates

Healthy men and women who are seeking skin rejuvenation and skin tightening can often benefit from Tixel treatments. To determine candidacy, please contact our office in The Woodlands, TX today to schedule a consultation appointment.

What Does the Tixel Procedure Involve?

To begin treatment, a topical numbing cream will be applied to ensure your comfort. Your provider will then create a grid using a surgical pencil on your face, as treatment will be done in sections. Tixel uses a small, heated metal plate, which is passed over the treatment area, delivering short bursts of heat energy directly to the surface of the skin without damaging deeper tissues. This stimulates collagen production to rejuvenate and tighten the skin. This process typically takes 30-60 minutes to complete.

The Tixel treatment offers three different levels of treatment including full ablative, medium ablative, and open channel options.

Full Ablative: This option is ideal for skin tightening and treatment of scars. With this high level, results are comparable to those of a CO2 laser resurfacing treatment.

Medium Ablative: This level of treatment can achieve skin tightening and treatment of scars, however, more sessions may be required.

Open Channel: This is the lightest treatment option and increases the skin’s ability to absorb topical medications which target conditions such as hyperpigmentation and rosacea.

Ideal Tixel results are seen after three treatments each spaced one month apart. For further improvements, treatments can be spaced with alternating treatments of SkinPen and Plasma Facial.

Tixel Aftercare and Results

Following your Tixel treatment, you may experience some redness and a feeling of mild sunburn for the first 24 hours. During this time, it is important to keep the treatment area clean and to avoid sun exposure for optimal healing.

As redness subsides over the next 24 to 48 hours, you may notice what are called “micro crusts” from the small grid marks of treatment. They are usually light brown and may flake or peel away. These can easily be covered with makeup until they resolve after 3-5 days.

For beautiful results, be sure to follow Dr. Rivela’s specific Tixel aftercare instructions.
