Otoplasty
(Surgery to pin back ears)
Anesthesia: General or local
Location of operation: Hospital or surgery center
Length of stay: An overnight stay may be recommended or until the effects of anesthesia wear off
Discomfort: Mild. The ears may throb or ache a little for a few days
Bandages: Bulky bandage from the inital surgery will be replaced by a lighter head dressing, similar to a head band.
Stitches: Non-removable stitches may be used to help maintain new shape, however, stitches are generally removed or will dissolve in about a week
Work: Most adults can go back to work about 5 days after surgery. Children may return to school in about 7 days, if careful about playground activity
